13. DRUG BALLAD
in third grade, all I used to do, was sniff glue through a tube and play rubic’s cube.
00. YOU’RE ALL I NEED (Remix + Mary J Blige)
lie together, cry together, I swear to god I hope we fuckin’ die together.
__
early morning tuneage from the 90s vault.
00. MARVIN’S ROOM + IF YOUR GIRL ONLY KNEW
_____
Although we’ve all grown fully agitated with the shitload of artists that were smushed together in Marvin’s Room basking in their drunken stupors, I couldn’t resist. I’m a sucker for mash-ups, “collision courses” of sorts. Beyond that, i’ve been on a major Aaliyah kick as of late (every so often there comes a point where I go from normal fan to obsessed), right down to her MTV Spring Break, beach house performances and ancient questionnaires where she’s sporting her signature shades, dark lipstick, and fitted caps. Kudos to the brains behind this gem.
05. TAKE CARE
it’s my birthday, i’ll get high if I want to.
___
On the seventh day of Christmas, my ‘chill chunes’ playlist gave to me-a jam courtesy of Sensitive Sally’s blood brother, Drake, and my Rihsus Pieces. It’s one of the many I listen to when I’m bringing it down a few notches and falling into one of my ‘earth to courtney’ moments. OR, if it’s the nineteenth of December and I’m feeling like a colorful assortment of The Grinch, Chuck Brown, and Ebenezer Scrooge-when I shouldn’t be.
02. I FOLLOW RIVERS
I first heard this gem several months ago while clearing my pockets of the little moolah left to my name at the less hipsterish shop on my list of favorites, Forever 21. Initially, it was the folky, infectious beat that piqued my interest. However, it wasn’t until I heard that familiar girlish coo, that I found myself loosening the death grip I had on the last medium heather brown crew sweater and stopping to jog my memory of how I knew those charming pipes. It only took my eyes wandering on over to a snazzy pair of brown oxfords before it hit me- it was none other than the Swedish ball of quirk, Lykke Li. Hello! If only I hadn’t unwittingly taken that mini hiatus from her music, I could’ve avoided that embarrassing, maniacal stance I got into on the hardwood floors of Forever 21 to figure out the brains behind this chunk of gold. Ah, shoulda, woulda, coulda. Anyhow, after reintroducing myself to this chune (sorry chuck, I keep stealing your lingo!) on the bus ride home from a dreadful day of classes, I reckoned it only made sense to take full advantage of the “one MP3 a day” Tumblr ticket.
“COCKINESS” by RIHANNA
my rihsus pieces and her ho-ish antics are just the bee’s knee’s.
“IN LOVE WE TRUST” by MY FAVORITE CALIFORNIA LOVIN’ HIPPIE + CASEY VEGGIES
turn me up, don’t turn me down.
“PRINCESS OF CHINA” by COLDPLAY + MY RIHSUS PIECES
DAMN. This is beastly. In fact, I’m almost certain that the “Beach Chair” collabo jam Sir Heavenly Pipes, Chris Martin, did with his best American mate (and my own personal God when the big guy is out for lunch), Jay-Z, back in the olden days of ‘06 will have finally met its match once my iTouch finishes syncing.

03. COUCH by EARL SWEATSHIRT + TYLER THE CREATOR
was always smart mouthed and quick-witted, but somethin’ was always missing like six digits.
“LONG AS YOU COME HOME” by Brooke Valentine
here’s a tune taken from the “sophomore year of high school” section of the jukebox-performed by an adored milk carton regular.

05. GOTTA HAVE IT
‘ello, ‘ello, ‘ello, white america, assassinate my character. money matrimony, yeah, they tryna break the marriage up.
“DEAD PRESIDENTS” by JAY-Z
Can’t get any more classic than this oldie but goodie snatched from King Hova’s library.

“HOTEL CALIFORNIA” by THE EAGLES
One of my favorite chunes plucked from the groovy 70’s. I’m quite beastly at singing this jam all by lonesome-with my air-guitar in tow, of course.

04. GIRLS, GIRLS, GIRLS
an appetite for destruction-but I scrape the plate.
